Operation Fitness Overview

Operation Fitness is a national health and wellness initiative founded by Michael Torchia, a lifelong advocate for preventative health and one of America’s most trusted fitness voices. Launched in 1985, Operation Fitness was born out of a deep commitment to empower individuals of all ages to live healthier, more vibrant lives—physically, mentally, and emotionally. In 2001, the initiative expanded into a nationwide campaign, bringing free public wellness expos, educational programs, and hands-on fitness activations to schools, military bases, and communities across the country.

Carrying forward the legacy of his mentor Jack LaLanne, Torchia continues the mission to Shape Up America by making health education accessible, engaging, and impactful. In partnership with respected institutions including the U.S. Surgeon General’s Office, the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition, the American Red Cross, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Operation Fitness has become a trusted force for positive change. Through innovative programming, national media presence, and decades of community engagement, Operation Fitness remains at the forefront of the movement to build a stronger, healthier nation—one family, one city, and one generation at a time.
